Unify by Bruntwood (Part of Bruntwood Group) is a commercial property specialist based in the Northwest, Midlands, Cambridge, and Glasgow, and provides the cleaning services to the group.

Their focus is to create thriving cities and create amazing spaces that connect people and businesses and unlock economic potential.

They provide everything from co-working space and meeting rooms, to services, managed, and leased offices and laboratory space.

Bruntwood is committed to a sustainable and fair future and were the UK’s first commercial property company to sign up to the UK Green Building Council’s Advancing Net Zero Program. And by 2030, Bruntwood will operate at net zero carbon with a goal of becoming a net zero business by 2050.

The company is constantly identifying ways in which they can further reduce their impact on the environment.

Within the cleaning areas, their focus areas were to significantly reduce cleaning chemical consumption, minimise the use of single-use-plastics, and identify opportunities to reduce secondary carbon emissions created by deliveries. However, the solution would still need to meet the high standard of cleaning that their customers expect.

“To achieve our sustainability goals, we needed to work with a supply partner who understood us as a business and was aligned with our purpose of creating thriving cities […] it was apparent that Chespack were aligned to supporting creating thriving cities through their own purpose of creating thriving buildings.”

At Chespack Hygiene, our focus is to support on implementing sustainability into the cleaning processes, taking every facility to the next level in their sustainability and reduction of carbon across all areas of cleaning. Our focus is simple when helping a facility achieve the gold level of cleaning.

We look at 5 core areas with our clients:

1. Significant reduction of cleaning chemicals

2. Elimination of all single-use-plastics

3. Saving water

4. Embracing new innovation that saves energy and makes cleaning more efficient

5. Sustainability of the supply network used for any deliveries across the sites

We really focus on partnering alongside facilities and looking specially at how we can drive efficiencies to help improve the level of clean in the most simple, sustainable, and cost-effective way.

After discussions with management, we provided the Tersano system - a completely sustainable way of cleaning the surfaces across sites.

Tersano is a simple system designed and tested as a chemical-free cleaner, sanitiser and deodoriser that is 50 times stronger than bleach. It works by using Stabalised Aqueous Ozone which attacks organic matter, breaking it down into smaller particles and suspending it in the solution.

The system was rolled out over 25 units across a 6-month period and has effectively helped Bruntwood to streamline and reduce the need for chemical products in the cleaning processes – supporting their sustainability drive by:

• removing single-use trigger and chemical bottles

• reducing deliveries to their sites

• reducing the overall outputs of carbon

• reducing the risk to staff.

There has been fantastic adoption of the system by staff with Tersano now used for daily cleaning across around 90% of the activity the company does

“I’ve found the benefits of the Tersano is less admin time for me with ordering stock, it’s a safer environment for my cleaning teams to be working in, and with new starters, it’s a lot easier for them not having to learn all the different chemicals that we’re using, and it’s a great benefit for any new and potential customers that we might have that want to be sustainable.”

With any project rollout of Chespack Hygiene, we’re always passionate to make it super easy for all involved and we’ll do everything we can to maintain a hands-off experience for our clients, and a hands-on experience for us. For this rollout, we’ve managed an entire project, setting up each building with a project card on a digital suite, giving the whole Bruntwood team live visibility on exactly where each installation was up to, from initial site surveys, right the way through to completion of staff training. As well as giving a dedicated call every two weeks with the team to go over any project and cover any specific questions.

“The supply and install of Tersano was a first step in our partnership with Chespack and we’re already collaborating on other areas that they can assist us with to improve our service for customers and reduce our environmental impact. ”
